Lila has been horribly abused by her previous owners. We only wish we knew who she was! Lila was picked up stray in this condition & taken into intensive foster care by our special foster Karen. She is good with other dogs, and loves human attention despite her previous abuse. She is currently convalescing at Casa Karen's, but is available for pre-adoption. She is a gem. She does have some food issues with other dogs, but not humans. We hope this will resolve as she discovers & realizes that humans are good. For more information, contact Karen at kawiem@kih.net From her Foster mom: She is difficult to look at and even more difficult to touch. She is very tiny in size but of course her malnutrition and emaciated condition makes that worse. She is brindle with a few white areas but her coat is very raggedy so her real coloring is unknown. Her face is not very flat so she is not so snorty. Her natural ears have jagged edges from frost bite or malnutrition - or both. I have seen this before and although they will improve they will never be normal again. They also have sores on them from the necrotic tissue and the hair on them is sparse. I do not see any other wounds on her so farand she had no fever at this time. From the size of her nipples I would guess that she has had pups in the past and I certainly hope she is not pregnant now. She does have a small scar near her umbilical area but I can not tell if that is a spay scar, a C-section scar, or hernia repair scar. I will try and determine that as time goes on. I do not think this dog has been road running for long. Her nails are long and sharp. I think this is a result of neglect for some time. she has been very sweet and done a little butt wiggling for me although it almost causes her to fall over. So I think she is fine with people but it is too soon to know the rest of her temperament. She is currently pretty weak and mostly gets up only to eat, potty, or drink. She was only at the shelter overnight. I think she is housebroken but she is pottying inside off and on. that may be from weakness, the cold, or the insecurity with the dog door the first day. Her hydration status has improved over the day and we have begun to give her small frequent feedings.
